Mustache Marathon Movie 1: Super Troopers

The Mustache Marathon was kick-started today with a watching of the 2001 comedy Super Troopers.  Super Troopers was made by the comedy troupe Broken Lizard, the same guys who brought you Club Dread, The Slammin’ Salmon, and the film version of The Dukes of Hazzard.

The plot of the movie is this easy.  There are two rival police forces, the local police and the highway police.  One of them is going to be shut down because of a lack of funding.  The governor hasn’t chosen which one yet.  When a drug trafficking ring is discovered, the two forces face off to show why they should be the one to remain active.

I would not consider this to be a masterpiece in comedy.  That does not mean that Super Troopers is without its fair share of laughs.  It’s a funny movie as long as you are willing to let your immaturity get the better of you for an hour and a half.  The cast works well together which helps to make the funny bits in the movie that much funnier.  Meow, let me get onto the mustaches.

Since this is the first film in the Mustache Marathon, I cannot go without discussing the facial landscaping within the movie.  Jay Chandrasekhar rocks a bushy mustache for the entire movie.  I would say it suits him well.  He also offered someone a mustache ride.  That’s a little bit awkward.  Steve Lemme also has a mustache going on in this movie.  There isn’t really much of a way to describe that one.  It’s a mustache that fits his face.  Kevin Heffernan is the same way.  He’s got a ‘stache and it’s suitable for his face.  But...the stand out of all of the mustaches in this movie belongs to one of the enemy police force members.  He’s got a full on handlebar ‘stache going on.  I’m an appreciator of a good handlebar mustache.  That takes skill and good landscaping to get that thing right.

All in all, Super Troopers was a good way to start off the Mustache Marathon.  It was an entertaining hour and a half that gave me a few laughs and an enjoyable story.  Here’s looking to the other eight movies in the marathon.
