The Canadian Horror Marathon Awards Part 2
We now bring you back to a show already in progress.
Welcome back to the Canadian Horror Marathon Awards. When we left off, Ginger Snaps: Unleashed had
just won the Worst Movie award and the Worst Actress award, and My Bloody
Valentine had won the Canucker and the Worst Actor award. I’m going to continue handing out awards,
this time for Best Actor/Actress/Movie, as well as a few others. Let us begin.
The first award following our intermission will be the award
for Best Actress of the Canadian Horror Marathon. The nominations for this category include Eva
Allen for Beyond the Black Rainbow, Carrie-Anne Moss for Fido, and Jamie Lee
Curtis for Prom Night. The winner has already
won an award, however. Margot Kidder
wins Best Actress of the Canadian Horror Marathon for her work in Black
Christmas. She stands out in a good way
in that movie. It feels like she’s
playing herself which elevates the performance beyond the typical performance,
for me at least. She is the character. Congratulations on your win, Margot. Don’t drink too much in celebration.
Moving forward, the next award is for Best Actor of the
Canadian Horror Marathon. There were a
lot of good actors in this marathon, but I got the nominations down to only a
few. Billy Connolly earned himself a
nomination for his work in Fido. George
C. Scott in The Changeling gets a nomination.
How could you not nominate that one?
Michael Ironside got himself a nomination for Scanners. And the last nominee for this award is
Stephen McHattie for his great performance as Grant Mazzie in Pontypool. However, one man stood out above all these nominees
to take the title of Best Actor. This
man comes from a movie called Beyond the Black Rainbow. This man’s name is Michael Rogers. His performance as Barry Nyle was pitch
perfect, getting the downward descent from dark to madness right where it
needed to be at all times. Nobody could
have done it better.
Do you know what time it is?
Don’t tell me you don’t. It’s
rapidfire time!
Hey, You Look Like Joe Anderson – Eric Johnson in Ginger
Snaps: Unleashed
Bonus Movie That I Never Got Around To - Deathdream
Best Haunted House Movie – The Changeling
One of the Few Films That Has Made Telekinesis Fights
Entertaining – Scanners
On the Air Award – Pontypool
Math Nerds Unite – Cube
Two more awards people.
It’s a horror marathon. No horror
marathon would be complete without an award for Best Death. That is why this award is here, to give
recognition to the best death of the Canadian Horror Marathon. The nominees include the black and white
flashback sequence of Beyond the Black Rainbow, the head explosion in Scanners,
and the beheading in Prom Night. The
winner, though, has to go to The Burning.
A bunch of kids get on a raft and approach a canoe. Out of the canoe jumps the bad guy, brutally
murdering all of them. How can the mass
murder of children not make the top of the list? Winner, winner, chicken dinner. The Burning wins Best Death of the Canadian
Horror Marathon.
Here we are. Final
award of the marathon. Best Movie. You’ve been waiting this whole time to hear
which one I would pick. I know you
have. And it’s come down to this
moment. I will list all of the nominees,
including the winner. Then I will say
which nominee wins. So, let’s get at it
then. First nominee is Pontypool. Second nominee is Beyond the Black
Rainbow. Third nominee is My Bloody
Valentine. Fourth nominee is
Scanners. Fifth nominee is The
Changeling. And the final nominee is The
Burning. I enjoyed each of these
movies. They have some good
performances, and in the case of one, an award winning bad performance. They all tried something different and
succeeded in certain areas, while not succeeding in others. I wouldn’t call any of them perfect. This race is really a two horse race, and
those two movies are close in terms of winning.
I have to pick one over the other.
I might think I’m crazy upon further reflection, and you may agree with
that assessment, or you might think I’m crazy already. I’m going to choose My Bloody Valentine as
the Best Movie of the marathon.
Something about it just connected with me. I liked it a lot. Congratulations to My Bloody Valentine.
That brings the Canadian Horror Marathon to a close. It was an interesting month. I don’t regret seeing any of these
movies. Each of the six nominees for
Best Movie were movies that I really liked and would enjoy revisiting. Some of the other movies fall into that as
well. It was fun. These awards are now done. Thank you for reading, and enjoy whatever it
is you’re doing.
