2011 in Review: A Look at Movies From 2011

I, of course, can’t do a recap of my own 2011 without discussing movies.   I like movies.   I like to watch movies, I like to talk about movies.   It’s fitting that I would need to do a blog entry about the movies I have seen this year.   I’m going to do two of them.   This is the first one where I’m going to discuss a few of the movies I’ve seen this year that are from this year. Before I get into the movies I want to clarify something.   This is not necessarily my favourite movies of 2011.   There may be one or two of my favourite ten movies or whatever.   I just want to take this time to discuss some of the notable movies that I’ve watched.   I’ll write about movies that I want to write about and leave out others.   I can’t do them all or else this blog entry would go on forever. Of course, I can’t talk movies without discussing Fast Five.   I would probably place this as my favourite movie out of the ones that I watched this year.   The action was a huge improvement over the f

Snow Set Movie10: Dreamcatcher (2003)

Before I get to the awards for the Snow Set Movie Marathon, I must finish the write-ups for the movies.   There was one movie left and I watched it a few days ago.   I am finally getting to the write-up for Dreamcatcher, a movie almost entirely set in the snow. Dreamcatcher is based on the Stephen King novel about four friends who go on a hunting trip in Maine and experience an alien invasion.   The movie stars Damien Lewis, Tom Jane, Jason Lee, Timothy Olyphant, Tom Sizemore, Donnie Wahlberg, and Morgan Freeman.   It spawned the great dialogue “I DUDDITS!” and showed aliens who like to hide in peoples asses.   Solid stuff there, right? I have been a fan of this movie since I first saw it.   People tend to argue that it has a stupid alien invasion.   I am not worried about that.   What made this movie for me were the relationships.   The four main characters have a great friendship between them that I love.   The little sayings, the way they interact.   It seems like a friendship

Snow Set Movie 9: The Shining (1980)

I’m not going to hide it.   I’m a fan of Stephen King inspired stories.   In no way do I think that the execution is always the best that it could be.   I enjoy some much more than I enjoy others.   The Shining is one of those ideas that I think had one of the best executions of them all, both the novel and the Stanley Kubrick directed movie. The movie version of The Shining stars Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, a man who agrees to spend his winter looking over a hotel that gets snowed in.   His wife Wendy, played by Shelley Duvall, and his son Danny, played by a kid named Danny, tag along and must now suffer the deteriorating mind of Jack.   As the winter goes on, things get threatening. There are three main aspects of The Shining that make the execution as good as it is.   The first that I will highlight is the performance by Jack Nicholson.   As the movie progresses, you can see him become more and more unhinged.   I’ve seen few performances of insanity that were as good as Ni

2011 in Review: Possible Stalker

Sometimes something that happens during the year happens near the end.   Life has no actual time to it.   It will throw things at you whenever it wants to.   It will force you to experience things you may not want to experience.   This is one of those things. Earlier this week, about a week before Christmas, I discovered that I had a stalker.   I don’t like the idea of having a stalker.   I don’t like knowing that I have a stalker.   To actually have a stalker is a horrible thought.   It scares me.   It really does scare me. Here is how it went down.   I was at work.   It was my time to be working at the cash register.   A girl walks up and begins to talk about fat people.   She says how they should not have the right to hide from the public eye.   If they are going to be so fat, she said, people should know who they are.   She also made note that if she were obese, she would want to hide so that she wasn’t a laughing stock.   This was alright.   If it had stopped there, I would h

New Community Episode Withdrawals Week 2

Tonight marks the second week of not having a new episode of Community on television.   Last week I discussed how this withdrawal was giving me a headache.   The withdrawal is still here.   I miss my Thursday night favourite. Community was a television show that I looked forward to seeing each week.   Watching the study group and how they acted within the rest of Greendale Community College was a staple of my week.   Was is the key word there.   It no longer is because NBC has decided to remove Community from the Thursday night lineup for the foreseeable future. Tonight, my headache has been joined by a stomach ache.   It makes me sick to know that tuning into NBC tonight, I will not be greeted with a new episode of this wonderful program.   My stomach and my head ache.   You can only imagine how much my heart aches too.   Abed, if you can hear me, show me what to do.   Should I put on a Batman costume and head to NBC headquarters to find some new episodes?   No.   That cannot be
