Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Season 2, Episode 25: A Monster of Global Proportions
The past few episodes of Mighty
Morphin Power Rangers have been big.
They introduced three new characters named Aisha, Rocky, and Adam who
will soon be joining the Power Rangers team.
Lord Zedd tried to turn them to the dark side but they wouldn’t do his
bidding. Bulk and Skull showed off their
caring side as they watched over a child whose father had been kidnapped by
Goldar. It was an entertaining three
part story and a hint at what’s to come.
Now we have one of the two episodes before the biggest
change of the series. Hopefully the new
characters return in this one. It would
feel odd to have another episode with only three of the Power Rangers actors
present. It probably won’t be a game
changer, but it should help to solidify the new trio as good additions. That’s what I hope for. What I get will probably be a little
different.
Season 2, Episode
25: A Monster of Global Proportions
Billy hosted a Teen World Conference at the Angel Grove
Youth Centre. He brought six teenagers
from around the world to participate.
Kimberly, Tommy, Adam, Aisha, and Rocky came to watch. For some reason, Jason, Zack and Trini
weren’t there. After the conference, all
twelve of the teens went to the park to hang out.
Bulk and Skull were determined to reveal that the six visiting
teenagers were the Power Rangers. They
stalked them from the conference to the park to the cave that they ended up in
later. The two bumbling bullies thought
they had stumbled upon the real Power Rangers, but they had only stumbled upon
a handful of chocolate.
Lord Zedd’s plan was the same that it was in The Ninja Encounter, only with different
captives. He wanted to take the six
teens from the conference and turn them into his own evil team of
fighters. For some reason, he always
feels the need to take teenagers and turn them into fighters instead of just
making better putties. When the
kidnapping didn’t work, he turned a conference figure into a four-headed
monster.
The Power Rangers leapt into action to defeat the monster,
but not before two putty fights. The
first was in the park when everyone was hanging out. Except for Zack, Jason, and Trini, that
is. Putties came to kidnap the
conference teenagers, so the remaining Power Rangers and their new trio of
friends teamed up to fight. The next
putty battle came when Lord Zedd brought his monster to life. The six Power Rangers, since the other three
had been called upon to help, fought putties outside a cave before freeing the
conference teens. Then they went up
against the four-headed monster. The
Power Blaster didn’t defeat it so they had to Zord up and fight. Even then, the monster was too strong. Zordon called upon a new Zord, Tor the
Carrierzord. With the help of Tor, the
Power Rangers fought back against the monster and defeated it. The end.
Mighty Morphin Power
Rangers has been chugging along, moving the story forward in big ways over
the past few episodes. This time they
introduced Tor, the carrier Zord for the second season. It surprisingly took 25 episodes to get to
the introduction. The first appearance
of Tor was odd. When it came into the
fight, it was flipped over almost immediately.
Since Tor was made to be a turtle, it did that turtle thing. It ended up on its shell and flailed around,
unable to flip back over. It took the
help of the Red Dragon Thunderzord to get Tor back on its feet. Then they easily defeated the monster. It was an addition to the team that will help
when they end up in tight situations in the future.
There was also a Teen World Conference that took place. This may be alluding to how Jason, Zack, and
Trini will be written out of the show.
I’ll get more into that during The
Power Transfer, but for now, I’ll just say that there seem to be some
similarities.
A couple of weird things happened during the episode that
may not deserve noting, but will be noted anyway. There was the whole Tor being flipped over
thing. That felt oddly comedic for a big
battle between Zords and the enlarged monster.
There were smaller moments too.
Why weren’t Jason, Zack, and Trini at the Teen World Conference? The actors weren’t there, sure, but the show
hasn’t been afraid to use body doubles in the past. They could have done that to show them in the
crowd. Oh well. Then when the teens were in the park and the
putties appeared, Adam did a weird little shuffle from one end of the fighting
line to the other. It was something that
didn’t affect the episode at all. I just
noticed it and can’t not see it.
Finally, when Bulk and Skull discovered the chocolate at the end of the
episode, Bulk was really sad. He wanted
to find out who the Power Rangers were.
To cheer him up, Skull took a piece of chocolate and did that thing you
do with children where you make airplane noises and fly the food into the kid’s
mouth. He did that to Bulk. Bulk liked it. It was odd.
This ended up being a lot of writing about an episode that
isn’t part of a multi-part story. It
must be the placement that it has within the series. The introduction of a new Zord, the movement
from introducing characters toward using them to replace others, and the odd
things made it fairly easy to write about.
Next up we have another episode that seems separate from the story arcs,
but with the way this episode went… Who knows?
I’m looking forward to seeing what the show does for the next few
episodes and I hope you are too. I’ll
see you soon for another Mighty Morphin
Power Rangers recap.
