The Mighty Ducks: Possibly the Worst Thing I've Ever Written

This past weekend, I took some time out of my not-so-busy schedule to watch a series of movies that I have loved since a child.   The Mighty Ducks movies have been a part of my life for almost my entire life.   I’ve grown up watching them.   I went through adolescence rewatching them.   They were some of my favourite movies.   They are part of me. Watching them this time, however, I have noticed that the movies aren’t necessarily good.   Each of the movies has major issues associated with it, from the editing of the first movie, to the second movie breaking the laws of physics, to the third movie having some poor writing.   The movies aren’t the great movies I built them up to be in my mind.   The strange thing is that I still love them.   I still hold them close to my heart.   I don’t care if they’re good or bad.   I still love them.   This is nostalgia talking. I don’t want to go into nostalgia too much.   It’s been overdone so many times by so many people that think they

The Thrill of Not Knowing

There is something refreshing about going into a movie knowing as little as possible about it.   It amps up the enjoyment, adds some mystery, and keeps you surprised throughout the runtime.   In the current age where the internet means that everyone can know everything at every time, it is a relief when a movie isn’t spoiled to you over Twitter, Facebook, or the numerous other social networks that we peruse.   It’s a wonderful feeling.                                          One of my more recent encounters with watching a movie that I knew little about was when I saw Friends With Kids.   I knew who was in it, but had a large misconception of what the movie was about.   I was under the assumption that Friends With Kids was about a single person or multiple single people who felt left out when their friends had kids.   This is not what the movie is about.   I based my assumption on the title, which does describe the film.   I had interpreted it the wrong way.   Because of this,

The Seven Sins Movie Marathon Awards Part 2

We are back from intermission.   It’s time to play the music.   It’s time to light the lights.   It’s time to get the winners of the Seven Sins Movie Marathon Awards tonight.   Wow.   That did not flow as well as I imagined it would.   Oh well.   Let’s get on with the final awards of the marathon.   Hopefully there will be a few surprises in here. Let’s begin the second half of the awards with the best actress of the marathon.   This is an interesting category.   This really was an actor’s marathon.   All of the performances that really blew me away were from the men.   There were some good female performances, however, and I’m going to highlight a few.   Gwyneth Paltrow was a solid part of Se7en.   There isn’t much more to say about that one.   Carey Mulligan was pretty good in Shame, but she was overshadowed by another performance in the movie.   The interesting thing with this category though, is that I want to go with someone else entirely.   My pick for the best actress of

The Seven Sins Movie Marathon Awards Part 1

Dum dum dum dum dum.   That’s the theme music, so you can guess what time it is.   It’s time for the Seven Sins Marathon Awards or the Sinnies as the hip kids like to call them.   I’m your host, JurassicGriffin, and I shall be taking you through the marathon showing the best and the worst of what I watched.   This is going up late because I get busy in the summer and like to watch movies and television.   Sue me.   Here we go with the first award. The first award that will be presented is for worst actress.   This is a tough award to give out since the marathon was filled with good movies and good performances or, at the least, movies and performances that weren’t bad.   That makes any worst award a tough one.   The runner up is Rachel Weisz for her role in Envy.   She wouldn’t normally be there, but I think it might be the worst performance I’ve ever seen her do.   The winner, or loser, of this award is Lucinda Jenney in Thinner.   I remember nothing of her performance other t

What Constitutes a Twist in a Movie?

I was perusing through Letterboxd the other night when I came across a list that someone had made about the best twist endings to movies.   While looking through the list, I noticed a couple of movies that I wouldn’t consider to have twist endings.   I might consider them shocking endings to the movies but they aren’t twists.   That got me into a conversation with someone over what constitutes a twist ending and that brings me right here, right now, to write down what I consider to be a twist ending and what I don’t consider a twist ending.   This is going to be slightly detailed but it shouldn’t be too much more than usual. I’m going to give a warning right now that there will be spoilers ahead for a few movies.   To talk about twist endings, I will need to get specific to movies and their endings.   It helps to better convey the point that I am trying to get across.   If you see the title of a movie and don’t want to be spoiled on that movie, I recommend avoiding this blog en
