Reimagined Shakespeare Marathon Movie Order

Tomorrow marks the beginning of the Reimagined Shakespeare Marathon for me.  Over the course of the month of May, I will be watching through ten different movies that are based on different Shakespeare plays.  If you’ve been keeping up with me or this blog you probably already know the movies I’m going to watch and what they are based on.  What I thought I would do right now was to establish the order in which I am going to watch them.  This way if, like you would want to, somebody wants to follow along or something of the like, you know what order.  I don’t have exact days because it’s more of a when I get to it type of thing, but I have the order.  Here it is.        1.        10 Things I Hate About You [1999] (The Taming of the Shrew)        2.        Throne of Blood [1957] (Macbeth)        3.        King of Texas [2002] (King Lear)        4.        She’s the Man [2006] (Twelfth Night)        5.        Forbidden Planet [1956] (The Tempest)        6.        West S

Reflection Upon Watching Movies 2

About a month and a half ago, I shared a bit about myself and the movies I grew up watching.   It was a good reflection upon why I became the way I have become.   It’s not that the movies themselves got me interested in movies as a form of entertainment or a form of art.   The movies I discussed were movies that made me who I am.   They were movies that were important to me in one way or another.   I decided to take some time tonight to reflect upon more of the movies that have been a part of my life from the time I was a child up until now.   Who am I kidding?   I’m not going to talk about now.   I don’t know how the movies I watch now are going to affect my future self. I remember being four when The Lion King came to theaters.   My aunt took me to the theater to see the movie.   I don’t remember much about watching The Lion King in the theater.   I remember much more what happened prior to being picked up to go there.   I, for some strange reason that I will probably never c

World Building and Compatibility

Making a movie can be a very tough thing to do.  I don’t know too much about making a movie.  The most I’ve done in that area was to help make two twenty minute videos in high school.  They were narrative videos with storylines, not thrown together sports clips with Drowning Pool playing in the background.  Those short films, if you could even call them that, are the closest that I’ve come to making a movie.  That’s not the point though.  The point is how difficult it is to make a movie.  There are many things that go into the process.  The one I want to talk about is writing. In the majority of cases, a movie wouldn’t exist without the writing.  This is, of course, excluding documentaries.  A narrative movie tends to have some sort of structure; a plot is usually the minimum, with dialogue either written or suggested.  At least, that is how it is from my perception of the writing of a movie.  I don’t know the full details of writing a movie.  It could be completely different tha

Reading for Leisure

I didn’t realize how much I missed it while I was at school, but it really is nice to sit down and read something enjoyable.   There’s something about it that feels good.   I like the feeling of getting into the minds of the characters in a way that you simply don’t get out of the majority of movies.   It connects you to the character.   It gets you invested. The reason I haven’t been reading so much is because I had focused any of my reading time on my school textbooks.   They deserved my attention more than my own entertainment reading.   I needed to do well in school so my leisurely reading took a hit.   It’s something that happens in life.   That’s the way things need to be sometimes.   Now school is over and I can get to catching up on a few of the many, many books I have. The first up has been finishing off High Fidelity.   I got the book around November 2011, and started reading it soon after.   It took me forever to find the thing.   I’d been searching at the book s

I Don't Understand Certain Television Fans

Television is an interesting medium to look at from both a level of entertainment and ability to tell a story.   These are not necessarily hand in hand.   However, many times they are.   This entry is not about that though.   Another aspect of television that you can look at is the fan base for television shows.   This, much like movies, can help to produce more of a certain series or franchise.   The fan base and amount of people who watch something can help to keep a television show running past what most people would consider to be the glory days. You might be asking yourself why I am writing about this and what I could actually write about while sounding semi-intelligent at the late hour at which I am writing this.   The igniting spark for this is from something I saw earlier tonight.   It regards the people who watch the television show Glee.   This is an observation I’ve been making while witnessing Twitter during the time that Glee is on for about a season and a half now.   I

1am Entry

It’s one in the morning.   I’m getting tired.   I’m probably going to head to sleep pretty soon.   Before I do that though, I wanted to get something out of me for the blog.   It’s been over a week since the last entry and I did promise to get at least one a week while at school.   I’ve come pretty close.   I might have missed one week at some point.   Oh well. I don’t really have too much to write about.   A lot of stuff has been going on with school because it’s exam time.   That means studying, and exams and more studying.   I haven’t really had time for life outside of school and the daily food, washroom, sleep, and housekeeping breaks.   Okay, maybe I’ve taken time to watch a few movies but that’s after studying is done for the day and I’m winding down towards bedtime.   Life hasn’t been all that exciting for the most part. I think this might have been my first Easter away from my family.   That isn’t a big deal, other than it being a first.   It’s only a holiday for chocolat
