Last time we checked in with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers , an Octophant ran around Angel Grove sucking away the Power Rangers.   While trying to stop it, the gang was caught on camera.   They needed to stop the monster and get rid of the evidence before Bulk and Skull could show the tape.   Their secret identities stayed intact and the Power Rangers saved the day.   The only problem was that Tommy’s powers were weaker than ever. I don’t know if this episode will move that story forward.   The title implies that there will be a beetle monster, but it doesn’t hint at Tommy’s fading powers.   There is sure to be putty fighting and big monster fighting.   Beyond that, I couldn’t say what to expect.   Rewatching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has been like watching everything for the first time.   I don’t remember this episode from my childhood.   I have no idea what I’m getting into. Last time we sat down with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers , Tommy was going through some serious stuff.   His powers were running low because Lord Zedd was targeting him.   He felt hopeless.   His friends were comforting him.   There was also a Robo Goat trying to take a powerful sword and use it against the Earth.   There were fights all over the place and an emotional hook that was unmatched in any episode that wasn’t in a multi-part arc. This episode, there might be follow-up to the Tommy storyline.   It would be nice to see more of the struggle with his powers.   Right now, that’s the one throughline that has been playing out.   II hope this episode continues to have some sort of meaning to the overall story, instead of being a self-contained and meaningless.   The show needs to grow and evolve, with a storyline that builds to something significant.   Having episodes that keep the story at a standstill is boring.   ...

Previously on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers , the high school kids were joining extra-curricular clubs.   Some chose the volleyball club.   Some chose the hip hop kido club.   Nobody joined Kimberly’s horticulture club.   This allowed Lord Zedd to use Kimberly’s jealousy to harm the Power Rangers team.   The only way to fix this was to have Kimberly’s best friend Trini come to her aid.   They worked together, mended their broken friendship, and defeated Lord Zedd’s newest monster.   It wasn’t the best episode. This episode looks like it will be a step up from the disappointment of the last one.   The title alone says the episode is going to be about Tommy Oliver.   Tommy is the most interesting character.   He has had the most changes throughout the time he’s been around.   He was a villain, then he joined the team.   He eventually lost his powers as Rita Repulsa melted down the Green Candle, but would regain some for...
