Old No. 587: The Great Train Robbery (2000) and Child Actors

Good child actors can be hard to find.   This is something that I’ve heard people say, or seen people write many times.   People say that child actors tend to be bad.   They say that it can be hard to watch a child actor perform because they are just being children and not the characters.   It’s something that comes up again and again with the release of new movies that star children as the main characters.   For the most part I can see that side of the argument. A movie that can help that side of the argument is Old No. 587: The Great Train Robbery .   This is a movie for children that is about children and the antics that the children get up to.   It exemplifies what people are talking about when they say that child actors are usually not the best.   That is far from the only problem that the movie has, but it is the problem that I am going to focus on for the majority of the writing. Let me first discuss reasons that good child actors seem hard to find.   The main rea

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Season 1, Episode 20: Green with Evil, Part IV: Eclipsing Megazord

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has been doing well with the Green with Evil five part arc.   Not only has it shown a growth in writing, but it has given twists and turns that shock the audience in ways that it hadn’t previously done.   The fourth episode in the arc only goes to further this fact. There is an overwhelming dark and dire feeling to the arc that is interesting to see infused into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers .   From the loss of Zordon in the first episode of the arc to the loss of the zords in this fourth episode, there have been many obstacles in the way of the Power Rangers succeeding.   Earth is in serious need of a savior and the Power Rangers have yet to find a way to defeat Rita Repulsa.   It’s only a matter of time before Rita destroys the planet that she set out to end in the first episode of the series. The fourth episode of Green with Evil only helps to solidify how bad things have gotten on Earth.   The Power Rangers end up being in their lowest p

Work Stories: Episode 35: Snakes and Ladders

Previously on Work Stories, I wrote to you guys and gals about a time when a seagull left a giant wad of poop in my hair.   I told you about how quickly I got home, and how I showered a lot.   That’s what last week’s Work Story was.   I’m sure that this week won’t live up to the excitement that was last week.   Don’t anybody get their hopes up.   This week will likely be a letdown. There are two different parts to this week’s Work Story.   There is no need to worry about that.   Both parts will be in the single post.   All I mean by two parts is that there are two portions to the story that rely upon each other.   The story needs both parts in order to be whole.   One will not be as good without the other.   So here we go with the first part of the story. Let me take you back to a few months ago.   I was (and still am) working at a museum in the tourist district of the city.   One thing that I do at work, which most of the other employees don’t do, is change the lightbulbs
